It may seem strange to talk about “end times” in a season of “new beginnings”; that is, the startup of my new blog website: “Looking for Gold.” However, as you may have discovered, God’s timing and calendar are often different from ours. Recently, I began listening to a sermon series “Is Jesus Coming Back?”* In a nutshell, Pastor Kyle said, “When it seems like everything is falling apart, they are really falling together. Keep watch. Be ready for the Second Coming. Jesus will return.” In his message, he also referenced the story of the fig tree:

“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near” (Matthew 24:32).

Well, would you believe this? A day or two after hearing Pastor Kyle’s message, I went to an outdoor market near my apartment to buy some grapes and a small melon. I handed the seller 1000 rubles (about $10). He handed back my change and he also gave me 3 figs! I have not seen or eaten any fresh figs in decades! What a surprise! Of course, I immediately remembered the verse about the fig tree.

And summer is not only near, it has passed! The chill in the air, the drop in temperature, and snow on the ground are my witnesses! Jesus’ Second Coming may be closer than we have imagined!

For some people, the talk of “end times” or “the Second Coming” is frightening. If that is you, snuggle up in the arms of your heavenly Father and tell Him your fears. His love will wash them away!

Lord, help us to be ready for your coming and to finish the race well! Come, Lord Jesus, come!
